Why you should do Yoga Teacher Training in India?

The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means ‘to unite’ or ‘to integrate’. Yoga is a set of mental, physical and spiritual practice which originated in ancient India. The origins of yoga have been speculated to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions, approximately 5,000-year-old Indian body of knowledge. Many studies have shown yoga is therapeutic for asthma, heart diseases and cancer.
Following the success of Swami Vivekananda, Yoga was introduced to the western world later in 19th and early 20th century by the Indian yogis and saints. Yoga gained its popularity in the west in the 1980s and a lot of people started to practice it as a method of physical exercise. While the west focuses almost on the physical postures and sequences (asana), in India, asana is only one part of a wide concept. Without a doubt, yoga asanas are great to strengthen and compose the body; however, there’s a lot more to Yoga than that. Yoga is about balancing the body with the mind, breath and inner self through the means of various breathing and cleansing techniques, asanas, and meditation along with spiritual cores like mantra chanting, yogic philosophy and karma yoga (community service). Yoga and meditation are the two sides of the same coin: yoga helps to vitalize the body for long meditation sessions, whereas meditation helps to calm the mind and stimulates it to focus on the body for yoga. The aim of Yoga is self-realization, to overcome all kinds of sufferings leading to ‘the state of liberation’ (Moksha) or nirvana.
